Applications ~ OOC Mechanics ~ IC Mechanics ~ Network

A P P L I C A T I O N S
WHEN IS YOUR APP CYCLE?
Thank you for the interest! Our app rounds are on the first week of the month (1st-7th), with Reserves opening one week prior. The intro log will be posted on the 10th, by which point all apps will have been processed. Apps and reserves operate in EST, meaning that they will close 12am EST, or 9pm PST on the scheduled night.

WHAT TYPES OF CHARACTERS CAN I APPLY FOR?
We allow fandom characters from all mediums, as well as game AU characters (characters with previous game experience), original characters, and malleable protagonists (such as the Warden from Dragon Age or the Lone Wanderer from Fallout). We also allow personifications (such as Hetalia characters), as long as they have established canons. We do not allow real people, though fictionalized versions of them are acceptable (ie: we would not allow Abraham Lincoln, but Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is A-OK!). We do not allow multiple versions of the same character, unless multiple versions exist in their canon. This means that only one version of any malleable protagonist would be allowed at one time.

Currently, fandom OCs (player-created characters with a background within a certain fandom but who are not canonically recognized as a character within the story) are not allowed. However, canon OCs (player-created characters whom a narrative is built around, such as the player character in tabletop roleplaying games) will be allowed on a case-by-case basis.

In general, using the framework of a tabletop game to create an OC is allowable, however, applying an original personality to a canon character (such as a completely blank-slate protagonist in an MMO or RPG) would not be. Please ask us if you have any questions of specific examples you'd like to run by us.

If you have any questions about whether or not your character would be considered appable, please let us know! We know it can get a bit confusing.

HOW MANY CHARACTERS CAN I APPLY FOR?
We currently allow 2 applications per app round from a single player. There is a character limit of 5 characters per player, but if you'd like us to make an exception, you're free to ask us about it!

IS THERE A WAIT TO APPLY FROM A NEWER CANON?
Characters from newer canon material will be accepted after a one month wait period following the canon's release. The one month is counted backward from the end of our app cycle- for example, everything that is released prior to the 8th of September will be allowed in October's app round.

CAN I APPLY FOR A CHARACTER FROM A NON-ENGLISH CANON?
We have a very strong preference that at least some form of canon is available in English so the mods can look into it- fan translations are fine for this! If the canon you want to app from has no existing English translation available, then we will require you to write a comprehensive summary of the canon, rather than simply a character background.

IS THERE AN AGE REQUIREMENT FOR CHARACTERS OR PLAYERS?
At the moment, there are no hard age requirements for characters or players in the game. Young characters- such as children or teenagers- may have their apps looked at a bit more critically to ensure that they are an appropriate fit for a horror game, but we have accepted child characters in the past and would be happy to continue to do so.

CAN CRAU BE STACKED?
Game history can be stacked if the previous games were connected with CRAUs. For example, if you apped a character into game A straight from canon and then CRAU'd them into game B, then that character could also be CRAU'd into Hadriel. However, if you apped a character into game A straight from canon and also into game B straight from canon with no CRAU, then only one of those game histories may be CRAU'd into Hadriel.

Please link no more than two previous games for CRAU history.

MY CHARACTER IS AN ANIMAL/ROBOT/INHUMAN, CAN I STILL APPLY?
Of course! For non-human characters, the only requirement is that they are capable of functioning in the city of Hadriel. All characters should have the capacity to feel emotions, but if they don't, or if there are specific emotions that they cannot feel, then the proximity to the gods will cause them to slowly develop the ability to feel things (notably, fear and hope, but other emotions will trickle in down the line).

MY CHARACTER IS DEAD OR DEATHLY ILL CAN I STILL APPLY?
Yep! In the case of dead characters, Hope will revive them upon entering the city, similar to how he would if they died in-game. This one's a freebie though, so don't waste it! Deathly ill characters would also be kept alive by Hope, though depending on how you'd like to play their illness, he can either remove it entirely or simply keep it from ultimately killing them.

WHAT IF MY CHARACTER HAS NO PHYSICAL BODY OR IS A GHOST?
In the case of characters with no physical body, it largely depends on their mindset. Upon entering the city, Hope may simply believe that they have been dead and revive them a body that aligns with how they mentally represent themselves.

As for ghosts, since the goal here is fear and not particularly death, they may remain ghostly if you like, though Hope can absolutely revive their bodies for them as well. Characters do have to have some physical presence in Hadriel, even if it's not tangible, so in the case of computer programs without a projected consciousness, please contact the mods to discuss it!

CAN I APP A CHARACTER WITH MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES, OR SOMEONE WHO IS POSSESSED?
Absolutely. With multiple personality characters, please detail the difference between personalities in the personality section of the app. With characters who are possessed, we will accept them, but require special permission if you would like the possesser to separate from the possessee at any time (ie: if you app a character who is possessed by a spirit, we would need to approve any plot that would involve the spirit separating from their host and resulting in the player essentially playing two separate entities)

CAN I APPLY FOR TWO CHARACTERS FROM THE SAME CANON?
In general, this will be taken on a case-by-case basis. Apping two characters from the same canon who have little to no knowledge of one another would be alright, but the canon would have to be expansive enough to avoid the need for playercesting. If you're not sure if your characters would be simultaneously applicable, please ask us about it!

HOW MUCH CANON DOES MY CHARACTER REQUIRE TO BE APPABLE?
We are looking for enough canon that gives a solid grasp on a character's personality. Specifically, we're looking for what motivates them, how they react to different stimuli, and what their strengths and weaknesses are. While some degree of headcanon is understandable, we ask that strictly headcanon statements (things that cannot at least be inferred from direct canon) be either left out of the app or clearly marked as headcanon. If you're ever unsure about whether or not a character is appable, please let us know!

WHAT DOES MY CHARACTER BRING IN WITH THEM?
Characters will be brought in with what they have on them at their canon point. Anything that can fit through a 8' by 4' hole can be brought, including weapons, bicycles, armor, things like that. If they require a certain item to stay alive, that may be brought as well, or Hope can wave his magic wand and allow your character to live without it.

WHAT ABOUT PETS/FAMILIARS/DAEMONS?
All of the above! We ask that each character bring no more than two animals with them (pokemon trainers, for example, would have to choose two pokemon. Will Graham would have to choose two dogs). Sentient companions will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. The rule of thumb is generally this: if someone else can app your companion as a separate character, then your character probably wouldn't be able to bring them.

IS THERE A POWER CAP OR POWER LIMITS?
In general, there is no power cap. However, abilities that would affect the setting (if your character is intent on destroying the city/stopping time/teleporting aboveground) will be given a soft cap so that the setting can be maintained. Please talk to us if you're concerned about character powers!

As far as powers for CRAU characters who obtained their powers in other games, we generally take those on a case by case basis, depending on how the powers were handled in the game. If the character powers relied on proximity to a being, item, or place within the other game, then they would no longer have it upon entering the city. However, if the character themselves had their bodies altered while in the other game to possess powers, then they would still have it. If you're ever unsure, let us know and we can work it out.

DO YOU ALLOW RESERVE/APP CHALLENGES?
We do not, sorry! Reserves and apps are on a first-come, first-serve basis. If two people submit applications for the same character without reserving, then the first submitted app will be judged and the second will only be judged if the first is rejected. If a character is reserved and the reserver does not submit an application by the end of the app round, then we will judge the first non-reserved app for that character.

MY CHARACTER HAS NO EVIL OR FLAWS, CAN I STILL APP?
You can! These characters will simply be brought in as exceptions to the rule. Please state this in the Flaws section of the app.

O O C - M E C H A N I C S

SO, WHAT IS THIS GAME ABOUT?
In essence, Hadriel is starting out as a horror-esque game, where characters are used as batteries for the two warring gods in the city, who gain power based on character emotions (specifically, their fear or their hope). While there will be monthly events, there is also an overarching plot split into several arcs, as well as a subplot of god revival, in which characters will be able to choose which gods to revive (possible future choices being love, anger, sorrow, etc) in order to further assist them living in the city. Over time, the revived gods will begin making their own plays for power, resulting in events designed to make your characters feel a myriad of emotions, rather than just fear. In this way, the game will evolve and grow based off of player choice and has the potential to take on different tones and veer either away or further into the horror genre.

For a more detailed look, check out our premise page!

WHAT ARE THE AC REQUIREMENTS?
We are requiring players to make a minimum AC of 20 network comments per month or 10 log comments per month or a combination of the two, with log comments counting for 2 network comments.

Examples of acceptable AC
-10 log comments
-20 network/inbox comments
-8 log comments and 4 network comments
-14 network comments and 3 log comments
-etc!

Activity in character inboxes are counted as network tags. While we're aware that action tags can take place in character inboxes and on the network, we request that all log tags for AC take place in the log community, [community profile] hadriel_logs. Additionally, please use no more than four proofs for AC if possible.

AC checks are self reporting and AC will be posted one week before the end of the month. AC is done on a two-strike policy- if a character fails AC for two months in a three month period without a valid player hiatus, the character will be swept. If a character fails AC for one month, they must make AC for the two consecutive months following the failed month for the strike to be cleared.

WHAT ARE THE HIATUS RULES?
If you are unable to make AC for a month for whatever reason, feel free to take a hiatus! You will be exempt from AC if your hiatus is two weeks or longer within the AC period. Hiatuses longer than a month require mod approval. Most hiatuses involve your character simply being on autopilot, but if that is not an option, we can work something else out!

For more information, please see our Hiatus/Drop page here!

I WANT TO CANON UPDATE, HOW DO I DO THAT?
You can certainly do that! The way it works in-game is that your character is replaced by an older version of themselves every time the door 'surges' (which will be once a month, as new characters are introduced to the game). The older version retains the memories the character has in Hadriel, as well as any memories/scars from their time at home.

For more information, please see our Canon Update page here!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY CHARACTER DIES?
Your character will be resurrected by Hope. Doing so causes a bit of strain on Hope's power and prevents him from doing much else for awhile. While there is no death price, multiple resurrections in a row may lead Hope to get a little sloppy, and your character may suffer from certain health effects- misshapen limbs, organs not working entirely right, memory loss, etc. That sort of thing is at player discretion, and you're able to choose whether or not you'd like your character to have any resurrection consequences!

Most deaths will be revived within a few days. However, if you'd like to combine a death with a hiatus, we can work with that as well. Our death page is here for more info!

DO YOU ALLOW FOURTHWALLING HERE?
Yes, but please ask the players before having your character recognize theirs from any source of media. For players who play characters who commonly get fourth-walled- Sherlock Holmes, Star Wars characters, popular comic book characters, etc- it might expedite the process if a fourth-walling option was in a character permissions post. If anyone fourthwalls a character without asking and the player would rather not let that happen, please let the mods know!

WHAT IS THE PACING LIKE IN THIS GAME?
Our IC:OOC day ratio is 1:1. We generally have at least one large event per month, with a potential smaller event thrown in, in addition to the intro log. Months in which we have god revivals (every third month) are busier, as the revived god has an event that spans from the final week of one month, through the first week of the following month. We are normally a medium-paced game with an emphasis on logs, and our players are very backtag friendly!

I'D LIKE TO SUGGEST A MONSTER/PLOT/GAME IDEA, WHERE CAN I DO SO?
That's awesome! We have several pages for that. Our monster bestiary page is here, and there is a form there that you can use to request a monster from any canon. Our plot/suggestions post is here, which you can use to suggest player plots or game elements that you think might be fun.

I C - M E C H A N I C S

HOW DOES MY CHARACTER ARRIVE INTO THE CITY?
The Door that Fear opened surges regularly, drawing both people and monsters in. Typically this will happen directly after an app round and potentially just before a large event.

Your character will wake up inside of an old gladiator-style arena, surrounded by whatever- or whoever- the Door pulled in at that time. They may notice animal prints in the dirt and claw marks on the walls, or dried blood around them. Perhaps more importantly, they will notice a monster, pulled to the city along with them. Intro logs will involve not only characters' arrival, but also their interactions with the creature - whether that means fighting, terrified fleeing, or freezing in horror. However, they will soon find that there is nothing forcing them to stay in the arena, and they're free to leave into the streets of Hadriel. If you don't want your character to have to face these monsters, you can feel free to have them arrive after the monster has been killed/driven off, or simply assume it ignores them.

Except for during the first month of the game, there will be smart phones (detailed in the Network section) in their pockets or lying next to them when they wake up, each with a message from Hope on it. The specific message may vary from month to month, so look for it in your acceptance notification, but the basic idea is the same: Hope explains the gist of what's going on in Hadriel, where they are, why they're here, and where they can go for food and rest. Isn't that kind of him?

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MONTHLY EVENTS?
For the first few months, expect mainly fear-based events. The Door is going to pull in monsters from various canons with each intro log, and Fear himself will pull out a few psychological horror tricks to keep your characters afraid. The important distinction to make here is that death is not necessarily the goal; fear is. Therefore, fear-based events are going to incorporate things designed to terrify your characters for whatever reason.

However, Hope is also present and attempting to gain power as well! Between monsters and fear events, Hope will be using his power to have a few lighter events- festivals, competitions for wish-granting, that sort of thing.

As the other gods are revived, some of them will be making plays for power through their own brand of events. For example, Sorrow could have an event that makes you relive your worst regret, or Love could make your characters feel a need to exchange flowers with total strangers. Depending on the order in which the gods are revived, some interesting god feuds and alliances may also result in combination events.

Ultimately, Fear will still take precedence and be the main factor of the game and the overarching plot will deal heavily with him and his events, however, the tone of the game will definitely be influenced by the other gods who rise up and try to take power.

SO, LOTS OF FEAR? HOW MISERABLE WILL MY CHARACTER BE?
It's our goal to create a game in which horror is a key element without oversaturating characters in so much horror that it 1. completely breaks down characters until they're shells of their former selves and 2. desensitizes characters to the terrible things that are happening.

We'll be interspersing fear and hope events at first, so there will definitely be some good times and things to play out and look forward to. In addition, some of the fear events can be turned on their heads to be comedic at times (think: bad C-rate horror film type events). So, it definitely won't be All Horror All The Time or anything!

WHAT KINDS OF MONSTERS WILL THERE BE?
Lots! The Door pulls in monsters from various worlds and canons, from the rachni of Mass Effect, to dinosaurs from Jurassic Park. Intelligent monsters can be brought in as well, such as those with the capacity to think and plan their way around your characters. During each monster-based fear event, we'll typically bring in one or two different types of monsters, both from the suggestions page and our own ideas. If you have any monster suggestions (they can be from any canon, not just your character's!), feel free to suggest them at our bestiary page here!

While most monsters will be dealt with in the week of the event, some of them will be fleeing to the tunnels surrounding the city to scavenge, camp out, and plot their revenge. This will result in the outskirts of the city being pretty dangerous places to be!

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHARACTER TRIES TO LEAVE?
Firstly, neither Fear nor Hope really have a solid understanding of how the Door works (though, some of the dead gods might!), so they're both unable to send your characters home, even if they wanted to. Secondly, if they try to escape the city through the caves, they'll run into a labyrinth of tunnels that all somehow eventually lead back to the city, if they can make it that far! While they're out there, they can also enjoy running into the monsters that have come through the door and subsequently fled the city as the events ended.

However, your characters won't be stuck in Hadriel forever! There will be events in the future where characters will have the ability to leave the city, the gods just don't have enough power to facilitate that yet.

WHAT HAVE OTHER CHARACTERS ACCOMPLISHED SO FAR?
With thanks to our awesome players, a lot of cool things have been achieved within the city! A hydroelectric power station has been created to lessen the burden of maintaining the city on Hope. In addition, we have a clinic established, as well as a City Guard.

As far as technology goes, several apps have been made on the phones that will be downloadable on the network: a clock app, a pedometer, some emojis for you, as well as the glorious game of Pong!

MY CHARACTER WANTS TO KILL THE GODS/CAUSE SOME HAVOC, WHAT CAN I DO?
If you're interested in putting on a player plot, feel free to contact us and we'll try to work something out! We love player plots here, and will always try to figure out ways to work things in. Killing the gods outright won't exactly be possible, as that requires finding them first, and they can be tricky bastards when they want to be. As for destroying the city, small buildings are okay, but please talk to the mods if destruction is going to be on any larger scale. Again, we can try to work things out, but we'd like to keep our city intact for the other players as well!

MY CHARACTER SPEAKS A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE, HOW IS THIS ADDRESSED?
Thanks to Hope's influence, every character will speak a universal language unless intentionally speaking in a foreign language. This works on both text and spoken word, so mute characters will still be able to understand others through text.

WHAT SORT OF TECHNOLOGY IS THERE IN THIS SETTING?
While the buildings and streets were made for things who were approximately human-shaped, it's pretty clear that the city was created by a different sort of civilization than your modern-day humans. While ovens and microwaves and fridges exist, none of them look or function exactly like one would expect them to. Everything is just slightly off: numbers replaced with symbols, appliances are shaped oddly and positioned in strange places, that sort of thing.

As far as entertainment technology goes, there doesn't seem to be much. The civilization that lived here before seemed simpler, and though there is a smattering of strange, alien devices of all shapes and sizes to be found around the city, any of their exact uses are difficult to glean at first glance.

WHAT KINDS OF SUPPLIES ARE FOUND IN THE CITY?
All of the homes in Hadriel are outfitted with basic (if somewhat alien) furniture and appliances. Couches and chairs and tables are there, as well as cupboards, food storage units, and food cooking units (fridges and stoves, basically). Rooms have beds, bathrooms have basic necessities, and there are overhead lamps and running water, even if it all works... slightly different than the way you might be used to it. Feel absolutely free to get creative with the setting- the weirder the better!

As far as actual supplies, most of it is what Hope creates in the shops. Things like food and toiletries are taken care of, but the food might be a little strange, and most of it was meant to last for a long shelf life. The shops have a number of different items in them.

Common items: food, clothing, basic toiletries (toilet paper, soap), weapons (in Rage's armory)

Rare items: tools, building supplies (nails, hinges, paint, brushes), cleaning supplies (bleach, weird random bottles of dish soap and the like, sponges)

Anything else is likely more of a luxury and therefore not provided by Hope at all. However, things are brought in regularly via the monthly intro logs, and the gods have all specifically provided various things when asked, though never for free. Also, Hope will sometimes put things in the shops that seem (to him) to serve one of these basic survival purposes but don't really, for example providing a child's watercolor palette on the basis that it's paint (and he provides paint occasionally as a building supply).

Common items are things that can easily be found by checking one or two different shops. Rare items are things that might require a couple hours of searching. On top of that, these are general categories - looking for something specific could elevate a search to difficult or even impossible.

For example, if you just want any clothes to cover yourself with and don't care about color, style, or anything but approximate size, you could find them easily - but if you want black pants in exactly your size, you might be looking for days before successfully finding any. Another example would be searching for a bottle of apple-scented dish soap (it's your favorite!) - it might require a couple hours to find dish soap at all, and there may not be a single bottle of apple-scented soap in the whole city.

If anyone has questions about specific items, just ask!

ARE THERE ANY ANIMALS THAT CAN BE FOUND ROAMING THE CITY?
There are some small fish in the lake and river that can be fished up, as well as a dozen or so Jabberjays found within the city limits. Other than that, there aren't many to be found- no rodents, insects, or other beings.

All the monsters in the bestiary can be found in the caves outside of the city, however, Hope prevents them from coming in and eating everyone, so props to him.

CAN ANY INFORMATION BE FOUND IN THE LIBRARY?
Unfortunately, the library is largely useless and most of the books are in various unreadable alien languages. The few books that can be read aren't likely to be of much use- a random farming book here, a children's story there. Additionally, very few of the books have images, but the images in the books would be pretty standard, ie: a picture of several fish in an alien book that would presumably be about fish, a picture of a cliffside on the cover of another book, things like that. The gods apparently weren't very good at keeping records.

HOW FORCEFUL ARE THE EMOTIONAL COMPULSIONS?
In the Settings and Locations page, we mention that stealing from the shops brings forth a sense of guilt. Similarly, entering into a god temple conjures the designated god's emotion in someone. However, these sensations are brief, but not overpowering, merely something that could be considered slightly uncomfortable or a little pick-me-up, depending. During the events, the gods may influence emotions more, however, the static emotional tolls on specific god locations is minimal.

MY CHARACTER HAS A LUNAR/SOLAR MECHANIC TO THEM, HOW IS THIS AFFECTED?
For characters affected by the moon and its phases, such as werewolves, they would find that the cave city of Hadriel still has a lunar cycle somewhere above it. Please pay attention to the calendar to note when the moon phases are! Physical moonlight, however, does not reach the cave, so if any abilities are only affected by moonlight specifically, then they would not be triggered.

For characters affected by the sun, there is no sunlight in Hadriel, however, there is enough artificial light and UV rays to sustain various plants and non-native animals found in the cave. The artificial light produces heat enough to sustain a cold-blooded creature, but it is weaker and cooler than natural earth sunlight. If the characters find that this is not sufficient, then they are free to talk to the gods to try and figure out an alternative!

Finally, the light in the cave may be effected by certain events. In the past, gods have shut out the lights for a few days at a time, and it may happen again in the future. We will always warn players in advance when this happens, so there's plenty of time to set up an alternative.

N E T W O R K

HOW WILL MY CHARACTER ACCESS THE NETWORK?
After the first week of the game, Hope supplies all current and future characters with phones. These phones function similar to character smartphones (and are actually be modeled off of a Nexus 5 that a character from the year 2013 brought into the game, though they have no identifying branding marks).

These phones have sim cards in them that can be swapped out for other cards, for characters who already have phones. There will be basic network access in a phone app, one that allows for text, voice, and video responses to posts made to the network. There is a second app that functions as a private inbox for other characters to contact them through.

The phones work in all areas of the city, though reception may be spotty in the tunnels, once you get deep enough. Be careful out there!

WHAT ELSE IS ON THESE PHONES?
Not much. Hope isn't really sure what you humans need in a personal device so at first, the entirety of the phone is limited to the network and inbox apps. The phones can also take and store pictures. Characters with coding skills may be able to make their own apps and games on the phones, all of which can be shared in files with other people on the network.

As of June 2016, there is currently an app for limited emojis and an app for Pong. Because... priorities.

ARE ACCOMMODATIONS MADE FOR BLIND CHARACTERS?
There is a text-to-speech/screen reading function on the phones, for blind characters. Hope doesn't really understand braille, but he may be willing to learn and apply it to other things if asked.

HOW WILL MY CHARACTER BE PRESENTED ON THE NETWORK?
When the phones are handed out, each person has a default name attached to their account- which would be their name in first, last order (the way it's seen in the tags to the entry). Of course, if they don't have a canonical last name, etc, then whatever is available is fine. Before accessing the network for the first time, the character will be prompted to give an alias if they like. All aliases must be chosen prior to posting on the network the first time, as it affects your character tag. Aliases will be used in the tag and seen ICly, with character's real name in parenthesis, which will not be seen ICly and is there for OOC organizational purposes.

For example, if I was playing Nathaniel from the Bartimaeus Trilogy- a character who canonically uses the alias John Mandrake and has no birth last name- I would tag my entries and responses as John Mandrake (Nathaniel). 'John Mandrake' would be seen ICly, 'Nathaniel' would not. We ask that you please keep any aliases canonical, as they are also used for OOC organization!

HOW DOES THE NETWORK BACKLOG/ARCHIVE PAST POSTS?
The network archives monthly into local data on the user's phone. This basically means that new characters can see posts that were made during the month that they joined Hadriel, but posts made prior to that month are not stored in their phones. However, they would be in the phone of someone who had been here longer, so new characters are free to borrow other phones if they want to do a little back reading!

And finally, everyone on the network has IC character tags that they set upon their first communication to the network, detailed in the question above. All responses and posts to the network are identified by this character tag unless the character chooses to purposely hide the tag (in anonymous posts, for example).

WHAT ABOUT LOCKED AND ANONYMOUS POSTS?
The gods are able to see everything that happens on the network- through both security and anonymous filters. Most of them don't use their phones or care particularly much to check and see what characters are saying about them, but Hope may be watching the network a little more closely, if only to ensure character safety.

That aside, the option to lock threads or appear anonymous is available to your characters. Hacking locked threads or anonymous posts is not possible, however, no matter how technologically savvy your character is.

WHAT IF MY CHARACTER LOSES THEIR PHONE?
Generally, Hope does not provide phone replacements unless specifically asked for them. However, if your character's phone was somehow destroyed during a death, Hope will bring it back alongside your character when they are resurrected.

Hi mods! So... I have a question about Kiran here and how his powers work in Hadriel. This is really something I should have asked when I apped, and I've been tip-toeing around it thus far as to not break any game rules, but I think I just need to ask at this point so I can work past it in my tags and in Kiran's development at the game.

Basically, Kiran's magic comes from when destiny conflicts with free will. His body can produce magic on its own when he does this himself, but in his "canon", he is able to use much more magic than his body provides by drawing it off of other people, who normally can't use any of the magic they produce.

In Hadriel, I assumed that he would have nobody to draw magic from since, long story short, the force that creates people's destinies is a feature of his world and doesn't exist in the game. But his magic is a little bit too limited to me in my brain if I impose that rule on myself.

Would it be okay if I had him able to draw magic off of other characters even if they have no concept of destiny in their canon and have no canon? Or, should that be something I do a permissions post for? Or should I limit it to characters who have their own innate source of magic, regardless of how they have it or why?

I feel like there's a chance you're going to tell me "however you want to do it is fine" but I thought I should ask just to be safe. Thanks for reading this mini-essay, lol.

Question I wasn't really sure where else would go - with all this exploration stuff going on, could people who would rather be a little farther from the gods' influence build themselves a little settlement just outside the city? Still within distance of Fear's teleporting and getting to the city, but not within the city limits, if they so desired? What about just individual structures like a building or two, or a house?

I know you've had questions about traveling the planet and stuff before, but I wanted to see if building just beyond the borders of the city would be feasible, especially since Love made the implication that distance does affect whether or not the gods get emotional contributions from people. I definitely understand if there's a trade-off of some sort -- like folks outside the borders may be less influenced by the gods, but face additional monsters and weather conditions -- but I wanted to see if it was possible and figured it couldn't hurt to ask!

This isn't an immediate thing, but I just wanted to know for plotting down the road. Thanks, mods!

OKAY so I've always worked off the assumption it couldn't be done but I am curious anyway. Especially with the paranoia event...

Would Kate's ability to see / affect powers be able to extend to the gods or magical artifacts like the door? I am perfectly okay with this being a completely terrible idea on her part but she has been unsuccessfully trying on occasion to locate the door with her power. I just thought I'd finally ask for a definitive answer on the topic!

Hello mods! New player here interested in the game.

This is very weird little detail but on the location page says that in the orchard only few plants are familiar ones so I'm asking are there roses around? It's something very important to the character I'm thinking of apping. I can easily adjust around there not being any around but it's one of the first things that the character would check out.

Does this also go for hand-written text? Auto-translated to anyone unless the writer is intentionally writing in a specific language, such that only someone who can read that language can read the text?

This is in regards to some of what we discussed in our recent plurk and PM exchange. I have an idea that would solve one problem: the fire engines’ dependence on the mopeds’ charging hubs.

The firefighters could build and install alternators in the trucks. These would charge up the batteries while the vehicles were being driven. As you may know, an alternator is a device that takes advantage of the rotation of the crankshaft and converts the energy of motion into electrical energy. All standard cars have these.

I’ve been reading in the tech forums that some individuals with tech skills have installed alternators in their electric cars, to run off the rotation of the wheel axles, one per wheel. They report that this works quite well. They never have to resort to a charging station again.

The firefighters have the expertise to do this (see my PM of today). And there sure is a huge heap of scrap metal (i.e. dead Null) available for use! Curufin started collecting before the fighting was even over.

idk why I hadn't asked this before because it's something I've been wondering for a long time, but do the houses/apartments have locks to prevent intruders?
If so, are there keys?
If not, would it be possible to assume one can obtain and install locks via supplies from one of the shops? Or is this something that someone would have to ask a god for? (I feel like this is something a few characters would have looked into by now, but I just wasn't sure how it would work due to how characters can just move in to a home whenever they want, but might not always know a place is occupied because it's open and the housing units are fully furnished.)

Hello! It seems as though you have a lot of Dungeons & Dragons OCs, but your FAQ states that these are not allowed:

Currently, both canon OCs (player-created characters whom a narrative is built around, such as the player character in MMOs and tabletop games) and fandom OCs (player-created characters with a background within a certain fandom but who are not canonically recognized as a character within the story) are not allowed.

Are tabletop OCs now allowed?

Hey mods! Let's talk soft caps. Because I've got a boy here I'm interested in sending who not only is gonna need a mandatory permissions post, but is basically Goku level's of ridiculousness when it comes to his psychic powers. Now, here is what I'm talking about. Before I start work on anything, I wanted to go over with you on which of these would be dulled down/removed and certain limitation's that would be placed on certain ones. I am so sorry for this btw.

Also, please note that despite the danger a lot of these powers possess, Saiki does not like using them unless he has to and even has two limiters on his head to stop himself from getting out of control by suppressing them to as weak as they were when he was 10. Most of his powers he has very little control over and uses them for minor, everyday life things.

1) The main power I want to ask about is his ability to restore/heal by turning back time on a single object. He can only do it once a day per object, and generally, he only turns it back by 24 hours. But, if his limiters break and he loses control, he's been shown to be able to accidentally turn something backward in time by 7 years. This doesn't affect time itself, nor does it affect people's memories, only the item. Like turning someone's body back 24 hours so they're not injured, or tired, but the person may not even realize it was done to them besides suddenly not being hurt/tired any longer, as it doesn't affect minds. Would he be able to keep that power, or would it have to be removed?

2) teleportation, assuming his limits would be inside the cave itself, and not work properly in the caves. Say he tries to teleport home, but instead ends up somewhere in the city, or worse, the caves. But once he's in the caves, any time he attempts to teleport he has no control over where it sends him and he has to wait the three minutes in between each teleport and pray he eventually finds the exit that leads back to where he can see the city. While if he attempts to teleport to a location in the city itself, he's able to make it there fine. Does that sound alright??

3) Clairvoyance, x-ray vision: Again, assuming they would be usable in the city but anything outside of it or in the caves would get him nothing but a headache.

And assuming the time travel/time leaps would be broke entirely, as well as none of his powers working on or near the gods, does that sound about right? Again, I am so sorry for the trouble but I want to be sure I don't mess up on his limits.

Hey there mods, just a quicky question because I've been wondering and I can't seem to find the info elsewhere. Can people find animals other than fish in this planet? Namely dogs and cats? I remember you saying no animals could be found but the monsters that came through the Door monthly but, I'm a little confused now, maybe I missed something? Anyway, I hope this question isn't much of a bother ✌

Hello mods! This is just something I like to address whenever I app Leo anywhere. So basically he requires the souls of sinners to eat rather like how a vampire needs blood to survive. Now, he can do this by noshing on characters, for which I would of course be setting up a permissions post. But I was wondering do any of the monsters have what could qualify as souls so he could eat them instead?

Okay, so what if -- hypothetically speaking -- there was a mechanical guy in Hadriel who canonically has a limited memory that overwrites his oldest memories with new ones, just found out about it, and wants to maybe ask a lizard scientist to attempt to upgrade his processor using some of the Null parts she has lying around? Would that even work with his own hardware? Would there be any Null-related complications?

Asking for a friend. Obviously.

AYOOO weird technical question here

so if a character comes into the city with an object because it was with them when they were apped, and then they leave for a canon update, does the object automatically disappear from Hadriel when they do even if they weren't holding it at the time? If it doesn't, do they re-emerge with a second "copy" of the object if they still had it, or does it not come through with them? Trying to sort out Taako's inventory lol. Thanks!

hi mods!

i'd seen mention of the allowance of something like a Bag of Holding, but i wanted to ask after a couple other details for posterity and clarity.

in the case of a little extradimensional port, "kado", it's typically small but changes size depending on necessity; it's capable of teleporting a fully grown adult, and other such tricks, but i can nerf certain effects for ease if necessary. outside of that, it can carry a few items from his home turf, which can affect some physics. outside of that, it's capable of taking objects into itself and then reproducing them as completely identical copies. he's used it, for example, to multiply little loaves of bread.

how acceptable are kado's functions in a game like this? to what point would you want any nerfed? if you'd like further explanation on any of its qualities to help you deliberate, please let me know. thank you!

Hello! I am considering the game but have a couple questions in regards to this character, Saitama from One Punch Man. Sorry ahead of time that question 1 is a bit tl;dr lol.

1) In case you're not familiar with OPM, the comic is a sort of satirical super hero story where the main character became so determined to become strong he became literally over powered. And I'm using the word "literally" literally. He can beat anything with a simple punch if he wants to, and is indestructible. A prime example I use to show his levels of strength: during one fight he was kicked to the moon and jumped off the moon right back to where he started, with no bodily harm.

Now, with that said, his OPness is pretty important to his character, because of it he's become very depressed and immersed in an existential dread, and feels like he isn't even human anymore, etc. I'm willing to work with mods on power nerfing if they feel it's really necessary, but in past games I've been in they've let me keep him as is because while Saitama is OP he isn't self-centered about it. He doesn't really try to get into fights with people, he doesn't respond to people who want to fight him, often gets lost or sidetracked and will miss major fights or most of a fight, and doesn't try to showboat or try to take the spotlight. He genuinely wants other heroes to do their best, too.

I'm more than happy to do all that in games as well if I can keep his over-poweredness, because, tbh, it's one of the things I love about him and the comic and it's much more appealing to me to do amusing stupid shit like, idk, trying to help a kid find her lost favorite headband while something big is going down in a game lol. You can also view a post I made on his journal regarding possible things that might be bale to affect him, and I'm always open to communication from other players regarding threading with him if something needs discussed.

Okay, now for question 2). As mentioned before, his OPness has cast him into a depression so deep he can be seen as truly apathetic in a lot of cases. He's shown in the comic to be capable of annoyance or even happiness if there's a really good sale, but overall he isn't affected by a lot of emotions. I was just curious about how a character like that would be affected in a game like this, if you had set some sort of precedence with similar characters in the past.

Okay, thanks for reading all that, haha.

1. For app samples, would you accept Fourth Wall threads? And in the case of CRAU apps would you like samples from the previous game?

2. Is there a limit to how many items a character can bring with them? Is it only what was reasonably on their person at time of arrival? Other than the stipulation that it fit through the doorway, of course.

TIA!

Dropping these here because I've got a few questions!

So in light of the fact that they might end up in a tundra someday, Carlisle is planning on basically turning his area of the park into a big, magical greenhouse via abjuration wards and glyphs. To do this, said glyphs they have to be somewhat permanent. His plan is to scrounge up a many rocks and small boulders as they can from the islands and the sea floor, meld them together via magic into basically a curb that goes around the perimeter of the garden (and maybe the memorial garden if it seems like it'll work), then carve the shielding glyphs (what would essentially form a barrier for this magical greenhouse) into them.

He's got folks he can ask to move rocks and ways to etch glyphs into the stone, and now that he's not super dying, he has the energy to actually maintain it. It wouldn't have a real impact on the city at large, save for a note that there's this one green area still in the park. He already had glyphs to water the place when they were in the desert, so this would just be an extension of that.

a. Is this cool? It's not going to trash any plots or anything for the park area, will it? And the area would still be open for folks to come in and whatnot - they just have to step through the magical barrier, which can be instructed to let living beings through while keeping out the cold. It'd be basically a big ward of protection from the elements.

b. If that is okay to work on plot-wise, are there stones in the ocean he can use, too? Glacius can swim and carry at least some sizable bits up at a time, so if there aren't enough on the islands and cliffs, I thought they might supplement that way.

Thanks in advance, mods! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to bungle up anything and that details lined up with the world before getting him into any concrete plans for the month!

Hi! I was thinking of apping this assholish angel and I have a few questions.
1. Angels are sustained by the Crystal Arch, and without it they'll fall unconscious or grow weak. Can the connection work through the Door?
2. I looked a bit for this, but I'm bad at rubbing things. Can you kill the monsters? Because Imperius is one to consider killing both the first and last resort, unfortunately. And even more specifically, can you kill the Krampus in the test drive?

I'm a total newb to dwrp so stuff is not obvious to me, I'm afraid.

This is probably hilariously dumb, but what happened to the boats that the Gods made to do the shard expedition? Would it be feasible to say they didn't disappear? Taako has a spell that shrinks things, and if possible, he'd have liked to have shrunk the boat he took with his friends to keep in his house. Because he's that kinda guy. Would this be possible/okay? He would've done this after the expeditions were done but before the planet move.

Question about the tundra and its many wonders: What can people expect to find in the bunkers if they manage to pry them open with an excavation? Similar stuff to what was in the robots? Anything different?
