Similar to the characters themselves, only one copy of an item may exist at any one time. If a character goes home on a canon update, their belongings from home generally disappear with them. If anything were to happen that would cause two copies of the same item to exist at the same time, the copy currently tied to the character would remain, while the other would disappear.
