OK... OK god help me (and slay the comment maker above me). A few different sorts of questions:

(1) Has anyone as of now done anything re: coding applications for the phones? Regardless of the answer to that, what would be the limitations? For example, if a character has quite a bit of coding skills (we're talking at least by supplemental canon information responsible for coding behemoth mecha), is the sky the limit (or the capabilities of a 2013-esque phone)? Like, since the phones are on a network, would multiplayer networked games be possible, et cetera? (don't worry he'd absolutely never make grindr...eta, but if there was a demand for nonsense like vine/instagram crap, w/could that be a Thing?)

(2) Semi-related, but re: all the technology around that's a bit alien and weird or like some alien toddler put it together. Would the mechanically and engineering...ly.... savvy be able to suss them out, take them apart, get an idea of how they worked, improve 'em, or do stuff with component parts, etc.? Are there any other computing devices or the ability to down the road assemble something basic?

(3) Semi-semi-related, and not actually super pertinent to this guy [unless secretly it's all numbers then he's GOT IT], but re: the books -- Since we're talking an alien language I guess approaching them like a code, like oh this symbol repeated this many times, must be "e" or "the" wouldn't work?

(4) Semi-semi-semi-related, OK, so writing devices. ....can chalk be found? This is Important. (And semi-semi-semi-semi-related, is there any means of avoiding that guilty feeling when taking from stores... how does one get a drink at the bar? How does... payment work...)

(4) TOTALLY UNRELATED. We've got fatal diseases covered. What about long-term degenerative but not really immediately life-threatening, but it's probably a good idea to keep on regular medication, type diseases?
