One underground city.

Eight gods.

Welcome to Hadriel.

[community profile] hadriel is a medium paced horror/choose-your-own-outcome game with an overarching plot arc that characters can alter and effect. The majority of the events are jamjar-esque, which are put on by the various gods designed to make your character feel specific emotions. These emotions give the gods power to further expand the city and establish themselves against the other gods, which then will result in plot events occurring. Look out, though- not everything is quite black and white here, and it's unwise to make such heavy decisions without knowing the full story...

The gods in the city are powered by emotion in the characters and use their various abilities to help the characters survive in the harsh environment of Hadriel. This makes their relationship with you essentially symbiotic- though don't thank them yet, as the gods also use their power to manipulate characters into feeling emotions through whatever means possible. It's a harsh reality, but it's ultimately done to protect the characters and the gods from a larger threat right on the horizon.

Initially, the two gods in the city were Fear and Hope, each of whom had different types of events to pull fear and hope from your characters. While Fear used the power he gained to hide the city and continue to terrorize the player characters, Hope focused on reviving the dead gods. As of March 2017, all eight gods (Fear, Hope, Rage, Delight, Sorrow, Confusion, Tranquility, and Love) were back to life and are working together and against one another in their own separate bids for power.

Not long after this, it became apparent that the gods weren't the only powers in the universe. The Null, the technological race that slaughtered the rest of the gods' race, showed themselves and attacked the city. Delight was revealed as a traitor, and now the gods and the city itself are fighting for their own survival.

At the beginning of the game, Fear opened what is essentially Pandora's Box in a desperate bid for power, as the gods' previous hosts had all been killed. In actuality, the 'box' functions more like a door (and is conveniently referred to as the Door), and it is the force that brings both the characters and the monsters that will hunt them into the city. Where the Door is and how exactly it works is unknown for now, but it seems to be able to 'surge' both ways- simultaneously bringing people and objects and monsters in, while banishing others from the city forever.

The gods and the Door are all immensely powerful, but that doesn't mean your characters are powerless. They can affect the setting and the gods themselves, choose which paths to take, and alter the focus of the game going forward through their choices. The fate of Hadriel is in your hands. What choices will you make?
